Transport

Bikes in locks and bus passingGosport has great transport and communication links.  With London less than an hour and a half away, the commercial ports of Southampton and Portsmouth close by, and easy access to the international airports at Southampton, Gatwick and Heathrow – it’s easy to do business and still have the quality of life that only the south coast can offer.  Routes out of the Borough connect to Junctions 9 and 11 of the M27, with onward links to the M3, A3(M) and beyond.

By rail

The national rail network provides direct links to London and Southampton from Portsmouth Harbour Station.  This can be accessed by a 5 minute ferry ride from Gosport town centre.

It’s shorter by water

The Gosport ferry runs almost continuously (whatever the weather) and also links to the Fast Cat service to the Isle of Wight.  Alternative rail connections are available to the north of the Borough via Fareham station.

Whilst water-based travel is a very popular and attractive option, especially with three marinas offering over 1200 berths, local opportunities for air travel also exist.  Atlas Helicopters are located in the Borough, operating from Daedalus airfield and offering a range of corporate and commercial services, which include their business travel service to over 1500 sites across the UK.

The Daedalus airfield, which is under the ownership of the Maritime Coastguard Agency, is currently a facility for private jets, gliding and other general aviation uses.  As part of its development of the Daedalus site, the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) is exploring opportunities to intensify general aviation and business use of the site.

Bus

Funding of £20 million has been confirmed for Phase 1 of the South East Hampshire Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System that will run from Redlands Road in Fareham to Tichbourne Way in Gosport.  The BRT will provide for a more efficient service following the disused railway line dedicated to buses and cycles.

Using the new busway, buses will be able to avoid congested parts of the busy A32 so that passengers can benefit from reliable journey times.  It is planned that Phase 1 will be completed by early 2012 and buses will be operational soon after.

For up-to-date information on the building of the BRT, visit the Contractors, BAM Nuttall's website.
