Holbrook
The Holbrook site is located centrally within the Borough of Gosport, adjacent to the A32 and close to a number of existing business parks. The site is allocated for built leisure and is the Borough's main public sports and leisure facility. Current provision on the site includes a swimming pool, gym, squash courts and ice rink.
The site lies 2 miles to the north of Gosport Town Centre and some 4 miles from Junction 11 of the M27. In a prominent location, it is situated on the main bus corridor, providing easy access to the Gosport Ferry and onward rail links at Portsmouth Harbour station. There are also excellent cycle links which connect the site to residential areas throughout the Borough.
The complex is in need of significant refurbishment/redevelopment and will need to include a quality community leisure facility that serves the needs of residents and is the focus for indoor sports and recreational activity in Gosport. There is also potential to develop an hotel, which can service both local business needs and the visitor market.
The site is owned by Gosport Borough Council and covers an area of 1.2 hectares. This includes the existing complex and adjacent car park.
Four developers have now been shortlisted and will go forward to a Competitive Dialogue stage. This will involve more detailed discussions with the Council prior to them submitting their individual proposals on the facility requirements as identified by the Council. After proposals have been submitted, a project developer will be selected this year and it is hoped that building works will commence next year.
