Gosport Planning Service
The Council's Planning Service is responsible for approving all planning applications in Gosport. This includes change of use and extensions, as well major developments, such as a new business park. They are also responsible for preparing and advising on planning policy.
The Service comprises a number of teams as follows:
Development Control
The Development Control team is primarily responsible for processing all planning applications that are received by the Council and enforcing any breaches of planning consent. They also provide general information and advice on individual development proposals and offer assistance in the application process.
If you are planning to build, extend, or change the use of commercial premises; work from home; add signage or cut down a tree, then you may need to submit a planning application. If you are unsure about whether your proposals comply with the Council's planning policies, it is advisable to seek advice and enter into pre-application discussions. For more information please Contact Us.

Planning Policy
The Planning Policy team is responsible for preparing the planning policy documents (in particular the Local Plan Review and the new Local Development Framework) that detail the Council's proposals for the development and use of land to 2016 and beyond. Planning policy documents also form the basis for dealing with planning applications.
The purpose of planning policy is to ensure that the right balance of housing, employment land and amenities is achieved and maintained in the Borough.
The South East Plan
The South East Plan includes a policy framework that covers the sub-region of South Hampshire. This framework outlines an ambitious economic growth strategy for south Hampshire and provides for a range of policies that detail the scale and location of new employment space and housing, as well as outlining the anticipated requirement for skills. This policy framework has been developed in consultation with the south Hampshire local authorities, which includes Gosport, and will align with Gosport's Local Development Framework.
Full information and documentation relating to the Local Development Framework is available online on the Gosport Borough Council website. If you would like more information, or have any queries, contact the planning policy team on 023 9254 5461.
If you own land, or wish to purchase land for development purposes, the Planning Policy team will be able to advise you on the relevant planning policies and advise on the potential for development. For advice on this, or any aspect of Planning Policy's work, please telephone 023 9254 5461 or email planning.policy@gosport.gov.uk
