Accommodation & amenities

St Georges BarrackThe Borough has a range of sizes and styles of living accommodation, to suit all tastes and budgets.  With some of the most affordable housing prices on the south coast, Gosport is a haven for those looking for a quality home. With approximately 2,500 new homes built in the last five years and permission given for further developments, a range of contemporary family homes and waterfront apartments now complement the beautiful conversions of historic buildings and the Georgian splendour at Alverstoke.

Whether looking to purchase or rent, there are a number of local estate agents who can assist in your search.  Search on our Business Directory under Accommodation and Property for contact details and weblinks. Click here to be taken to the Business Directory.

The Borough has all the traditional amenities you would expect to find in any thriving urban community – and a few more of the unusual as well!

Gosport was the first area in Hampshire to re-launch its town centre library as a Discovery Centre, linked to the local museum and gallery.  The Discovery Centre provides a whole new experience in accessing the spoken and written word, as well as staging cultural events, offering IT access, a colourful café and excellent meeting/training facilities. The change has brought a new vigour and generation of users into the Centre, mirroring the effect of change elsewhere in the Borough.

Gosport is also possibly the only place in the UK where cross-channel ferries and warships can be seen sailing across the end of the High Street, as they enter and leave Portsmouth Harbour.  With the largest twice-weekly market on the south coast, an 18th century award-winning garden and 20 miles of coast and waterfront, the surprises go on and on, all packed into an area reputed to be the sunniest spot in the UK.

The high life and nightlife of Gunwharf Quays is a five minute ferry ride from the town centre, complementing the award-winning eateries located throughout Gosport; offering fine dining experiences from across the world and some of the best music live around – the legacy of fine musicians such as Nat Gonella who lived in the Borough for 21 years.

Gosport is also home to the Waterfront Festival, an annual three-day extravaganza of music and fun, featuring some of the most popular bands and artists from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Perhaps the most important feature of Gosport and one that sets it apart from its more cosmopolitan neighbours is the warmth and friendliness of its people – a factor frequently commented on by visitors who choose to return to the Borough year after year and local businesses that identify the networks and support available as an invaluable ingredient for success.

“Gosport is an excellent place for new companies to set up.  It’s nice and easy to get to and the local community and businesses just help you to succeed”
Ian Jinks, Ondeck
