15/12/2011

The Workforce Investment Award went to those who: - recruit from the local labour market; can show evidence of staff loyalty and pride in the business; invest in training, work experience and apprenticeships; and provide opportunities for people who are unemployed.

Affinity Health & Beauty has been in Gosport for many years and their loyal staff and customers are testament to their success. Their commitment in offering work experience and training opportunities for young people in Gosport is to be commended.  Not only do they invest in apprentices and existing staff, they actively provide opportunities for the unemployed and students from local schools.

Since 1998, Groundwork Solent, a not-for-profit business has delivered services and projects which benefit individuals and the community.  They provide training, volunteering and work experience opportunities for unemployed young people and those with disabilities.  In 2009 a ‘Community Task Force’ helped provide paid for training and employment placements in construction and environmental services, with some trainees then progressing to supervisory roles. Its success means that teams now operate on a commercial basis and a joint venture with the Wheatsheaf Trust is allowing this success to be replicated across South Hampshire.
