Business and Employment Fair- News
30/01/2012
Businesses who attended Gosport’s first Business and Employment Fair held at Thorngate Halls heralded it as a great success. Many exhibiting employers (as well as local businesses who popped along on the day), commented on how it enabled them to forge new business contacts, and promote good news for Gosport in these difficult economic times.
Many people found the ability to speak directly to employers to find out ‘what the jobs are really like and what qualifications or training is needed’ as being a really useful feature of the event. The National Apprenticeship Service stand was busy all day - as well astalking directly to employers about taking on apprentices, the Service also answered enquiries about apprenticeships on offer in South Hampshire.
With over 800 people passing through it doors, the fair bustled with activity. Showcasing over 30 key employers ranging from defence, marine and engineering to health and housing providers, it offered the public access to current job vacancies, and gave residents a wealth of information on jobs, training and careers in Gosport. Help was also on hand for those looking to start up or grow their business in the dedicated ‘Business Start-up’ area. One attendee was quoted as saying “Nice to get some face to face advice about making the step from being a sole trader to incorporating as a limited company”.
